The Nicholson River begins in the rugged mountains of the Australian Alps.
It then zig-zags its way south to the grand unveiling of the Gippsland Lakes. Upstream from the Princes Highway the river morphs from narrow and shallow, to sections with deep and wide pools, and then to energetically skipping around rocks and boulders.
