FIND OUT MORE

Fishing & Boating

Metung is the stuff of dreams for boating and fishing enthusiasts. With easy access boat ramps, jetties, mooring facilities, bait shops and boat charter, the town enthusiastically caters to those wanting to get onto the water.

For the sailor wannabe, Metung is the perfect place to learn with easy-to-navigate waters and the absence of tides, rocks and reefs.

If you prefer not to use your sea legs, fishing from the jetties, the Metung Boardwalk or along the Tambo river also rewards with an abundance of opportunities to land yellow eye mullet, galaxias, bream and trout.

Walking

Take a picturesque stroll around the edge of Bancroft Bay (with a rod, bait and tackle, if you like) along the Metung Boardwalk, taking in Legend Rock, a meteorite entrenched in Gunaikurnai mythology.

Follow the banks of the creek along Boxes Creek Walking Trail to get the heart pumping. Keep a watch out for sea eagles and kingfishers.

Eat & Drink

The opening of the Metung Hot Springs has heralded a new era for the Metung Country Club (formerly Kings Cove Golf Club) with the club house being reborn as a luxe restaurant overlooking the lush green of the golf course. Here you can savour the best of Gippsland’s produce, whilst working your way through a strong local beer and wine list.

We recommend you start the day with a relaxed brunch at Hamptons-style Aroma Café, whose healthy breakfast bowls will bring a pop of colour to your morning.

Across the road, the Metung Café and Bakery offers so much more than fresh bread – with a range of dumplings and banh-mi that’s sure to impress. Meanwhile, Effloresce Metung delivers an ever-evolving range of unique and delicious cakes. The Local Metung takes thin crust woodfired pizza to the next level with local ingredients including Snowy River Black Garlic and Flooding Creek Fungi. And at the end of the day, you simply cannot beat the waterfront views from the Metung Hotel

ABORIGINAL HERITAGE

Legend Rock is one of the eleven Indigenous sites of significance on the Bataluk Cultural Trail. Gurnaikurnai legend holds that a fisherman was turned into a rock for being greedy with his day’s catch.

Arts & Culture

The laidback town inspires the many artisans, photographers, jewellers and sculptors who call Metung home, and have set up boutique galleries in town. The monthly Farmers Market (second Saturday each month) showcases some of their wares, alongside local produce and flowers.

BOAT TOURS & CHARTERS

Boats and kayaks are available for hire from Riviera Nautic, or take a tour with Lakes Entrance Offshore Charters who will collect you from a private jetty and take you to the best fishing spots in Lakes Entrance.
